5-23-19 SFTC

pictured: Geoff Barrow of Portishead, Beak, Quakers, etc.

Listen to this one hour radio set here for up to two weeks

I stuck around for an extra hour last week to play more music and to correct something I had said earlier on Merging w/the Night, regarding an influential bassline that appears in Tricky's "Hell is Round the Corner", Portishead's "Glory Box", and Hooverphonic's "Mad About You", among other places.
The bassline originally comes from Wallace Collection's song "Daydream", which was remade by I Monster for a UK hit in the 90's, and which also appears in The Beta Band's "Squares", again among other places.

I also played a live version of Portishead's "Machine Gun" featuring Chuck D rapping his lyrics for "Black Steel", a re-do of which by Tricky I played in the previous show.  Check out the video, too!
